Joint Studio on Eastern Waterfront Development

Researchers: School of Habitat Studies, TISS and URBZ

URBZ organized a week-long ‘Joint Studio on Eastern Water Front of Mumbai’ from January 8 to 13, 2010 along with Columbia University and the School of Habitat Studies. Students and faculty of the School of Habitat Studies (TISS), Columbia University and JJ College of Architecture participated in the studio. The objective of the studio was to engage students in a field-based, multidisciplinary engagement with real life issues and discourses about the development of Mumbai. The studio included an opening orientation exercise, site visits and interactions in six different nodes along the waterfront, each with distinct socioeconomic profiles, a small mid-course workshop, and a concluding panel discussion. Prof Amita Bhide contributed an article in the compendium published by Columbia University.
